On 3-11 September 2005, in the framework of task WP 1.3 Monitoring of forest fire, Dr Barbara Ubysz and Dr Ryszard Szczygieł visited INRA (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique) in Avignon (France). The aim of the visit was to become familiar with present subjects of research work carried out by Department of Forest Protection (Equipe Prévention des Incendies de Foret) and to restore old contacts and find new ones.

Works results regarding effects of fires on forests ecosystems gained in this Department are in great interest for Polish scientists. Additionally, the French Team has good equipped modern laboratory to study forest materials burning processes.

French scientists have great experience in both carrying on researches concern forest fires and project proposal preparing (e.g. EUFIRELAB). They are knowledgeable about reliable consortium creation and realization of international research projects. Stay in INRA and meeting with French collaborators brought opportunity to Polish scientists to become familiar with European Union’s projects realization and project management, especially that the Forest Research Institute is one of the partner in Integrated Project FIRE PARADOX where Eric Rigolot from Department of Forest Protection INRA is the co-ordinator.
