On 4-17.10.05. Dr Justyna Nowakowska visited the Institute of Molecular and Issued Biology of Plants, University Politechnic Valencia, Spain (Instituto de Biología Molecular y Cellular de Plantas (IBMPC), Universidad Politéchnica de Valencia, Spain), The aim of the planned activity was to exchange the information and get knowledge about the new technologies applied in gene expression study in woody plants – microarray technique.
During the scientific stay Dr Nowakowska has learned how to proceed with the microarray technique in woody plant – Citrus clementina Hort. To perform the analysis, the microarrays have been used, relying on robotically spotted probes that have been immobilized on a glass-based matrix. The microarray probes were made from PCR products in order to cover all expressed genes in this species. Each array element contained DNA representing a different gene from citrus family.
During the lecture, Dr Nowakowska presented the latest research achievements performed in DNA Laboratory in FRI Warsaw and highlighted the Proforest Project activities.
The scientific stay in IBMPC in Valencia gave mean opportunity to exchange scientific knowledge about the newest methods applied in forest genetics – microarray technique.
The practical application of the microarray methods was discussed. The possibility of an international cooperation between FRI Warsaw and IBMPC Valencia has emerged. This stay provided a very broad base for exchange of information related to gene expression and sustainable management of woody plant genetic resources.
