During the visit in Forestry Faculty of Swedish Agricultural University in Umea, on 1-4 October, Dr Jacek Hilszczański and M.Sc. Tomasz Jabłoński learned about scientific research of Department of Animal Ecology and Department of Phytopathology mainly with aspects of proecological forest management in Swedish forests. Field trip in experimental forest of the faculty in Kulbacksliden was devoted to learn about silvicultural methods of forest protection against fungi pathogens like Gremeniella abietina, and about methods of stand damage estimation caused by pests of afforestations mainly sawflies Diprionidae and pine shoot moth Dioryctia mutatella. Dr Hilszczański presented on examples in the field and characterized typical assemblages of bark and wood boring beetles related to pine and spruce.

During the visit possibilities of common research of Department of Animal Ecology in Umea and the Forest Research Institute in Warsaw on saproksylic insects including parasitoids were discussed.
