On 25.09-08.10 Dr Jurate Lynikiene from the Lithuanian Forest Research Institute has realized post-doctoral training visit in a range of impact of management on forests biodiversity.

Habitat and developmental conditions preservation for all forest organisms is one of the main factors affecting forest sustainability and biodiversity. Effect of forest management on natural environment is one of the main issues undertaken by many scientific centers within research on biodiversity conservation. Lithuanian Forest Research Institute in Kaunas where her main field of interest is effect of forest management on biodiversity employs Dr Jurate Lynikiene. In 2004 Dr Lynikiene defended her doctoral thesis on the effect of measures related to forest protection on ground leaving insects. Post-doctoral courses were planned as part of European research area development and enhancement of mobility of young researchers from the countries being new members of EU. During the courses Dr Lynikiene took part in international conference in Waplewo (Regional Directory of the State Forests Olsztyn) on effect of forest management on biodiversity, where she gave the presentation entitled “The influence of insecticides on diversity of ground beetles species”. Within the courses Dr Lynikiene learned about different methods of biodiversity conservation in Polish forest taking courses in Departments of Forest Protection in Sękocin, Natural Forests in Białowieża and Forest Management in Mountain Areas in Cracow.

Main issues undertaken during the courses:
  • Scientific research at the Department of Forest Protection,
  • Forest pests forecast,
  • Conservation of biodiversity in Polish forests,
  • Environmental friendly methods of forest protection,
  • Scientific research at the Department of Management in Mountain Areas,
  • Research on pheromones of bark beetles,
  • Enhancement of biodiversity with silvicultural measures,
  • Research on experimental plots in Tatra Mountains,
  • Scientific research at the Department of Natural Forests,
  • Importance of Białowieża Primeval forest for the research and conservation of European forest biodiversity,
  • Enhancement of biodiversity with silvicultural measures in Experimental Forest of Białowieża,
  • Forest community changes in Białowieża forest in last decades,
  • Clone archive of selected tree species of Białowieża Primeval forest.
