On 5-11 March 2006, in the framework of task WP 1.3 Monitoring of forest fire, Dr Barbara Ubysz and Dr Józef Piwnicki visited the Centre for Applied Ecology in the Institute of Agronomy, Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal (Centro de Ecologia Aplicada „Prof. Baeta Neves” (CEABN), Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa).

Research in a field of forest fires ecology, their impact on environment, measures after forest fires and forest protection against fires are carried on in the Centre. The aim of the visit is to become familiar with present subjects and methods of research work.

Portuguese scientists have great experience in both carrying on researches concern both forest fires and project proposal preparing (e.g. EUFIRELAB). They are knowledgeable about reliable consortium creation and realization of international research projects. Stay in CEABN and meeting with Portuguese collaborators brought opportunity to Polish scientists to become familiar with European Union’s projects realization and project management, especially that the Forest Research Institute is one of the partner in Integrated Project FIRE PARADOX where Prof. Francisco Castro Rego, the Centre’s Director is the co-ordinator.
